Products

It can definitely feel a bit overwhelming with all of the information available.  To make it easy, please visit our Where To Start page to easily determine which product(s) are right for you at your current level of skill.

The foundation of all higher level playing, always begins with some reasonable level of technical skill, i.e. dexterity and coordination of the right & left hands. Robert’s learning products are directed toward players who want to make their transition to jazz guitar, after having already acquired some level of skill after playing rock, blues, country or other type of music. In addition, Robert prefers to teach playing skills at the song level, as this approach keeps the student’s interest in the learning process at a continuously high level, while increasing his/her playing skills. However, in the absence of previous playing experience, one can also acquire a level of technical skill via another avenue. In keeping with Robert’s approach to effective teaching and learning:

The next steps are to:

  1. Acquire some, even if minimal, level of technique.
  2. Do so in a reasonably short period of time.
  3. And do so without being bored to tears while learning.

Since you are at such an early stage of playing, the best DVD for you to begin with is The Precision Technique, which presents a series of very melodic studies that are enjoyable to play. With a bit of desire and effort, you can, and will master the first studies. After doing so, you will be nothing less than shocked by what you will have accomplished in just a few short months. That acquired skill will open the doors to all the other Entry Level and ultimately the Advanced Level materials.

Yes, all single note soloing products are transcribed in notation and tablature.  Additionally, the tablature is written according to Robert’s Fingering Protocol as taught in The Precision Technique.

No, none of our DVDs are region encoded and they will play in any DVD player in the country, NTSC or PAL format.

No, the volume numbers are only to differentiate from one title in the series to the next. Volume 1 is not designed to be easier than Volume 4.

If you have no experience taking a single note melody line and adding chords, then start with The Chord Melody Assembly Line.  To learn Robert’s advanced method to reharmonize any arrangement, you’ll need The Formula.

The definition of mastering the exercise is simply to be able to play the exercise smoothly at a tempo of 84bpm (or greater) using Robert’s Fingering Protocol technique.  While it’s always good to be able to play the exercise faster and faster, you don’t need to be able to play it at lightning speed before you can move onto the next exercise.  Instead of a specific tempo, your goal should be to be able to play it “precisely” Once you can get through the exercise at a lower tempo, then the speed will come with more practicing. It is better to play your lines with precision slowly, than to miss notes.
