Winter NAMM 2004

The beginning of the year started with the Annual Winter NAMM Expo in Anaheim, California, where Bob delivered several great performances for the spectators. There are a few pictures of Bob joking with his friend, Carol Kaye, a wonderful person and musician who Bob holds in very high esteem because of her monumental accomplishments in the music business (Carol has over 10,000 recordings to her credit as a session bassist!). Incidentally, that’s Jim Frejek in the back of the photo. Jim was assistant guitarist in the Volume One and Volume Two group of DVDs.

To The Brink!

Just after the NAMM show, some unusual, but nevertheless favorable scheduling circumstances allowed Bob to get into a recording studio to do a new CD with favorite Las Vegas musician pals, Billy Moran on B-3, Rocco Barbato on Saxes and Bob’s regular LA sidekick drummer, Aldo Bentivegna! Yes, believe it, “To The Brink!” a cooking Quartet CD is in the can and will be out very soon!

Volume Three DVDs

In early Spring, Bob also completed production of the Volume Three DVDs for each of the Smoking Lineman, Sound Of Rio and Big City Blues series! Those DVDs were released during the mid summer.

Yosemite Jazz Guitar Workshop

In addition to all the craziness of an often hectic performing schedule in Las Vegas, Bob made a trip to Northern California in May to be a guest instructor at Rich Severson’s Jazz Guitar Workshop, which was held in a lodge surrounded by the breath-taking natural beauty of Yosemite National Park. As Bob said, the place was two blocks from heaven. Rich and his lovely wife Gail did an excellent job hosting the event and Bob had a great time working with each of the delightful people who attended that workshop, which by all reports was a memorable event (see photos below).

Shortly after returning from Yosemite, Bob began an extended engagement at a center strip hotel.

The May issue of Just Jazz Guitar included Mark Stefani’s rave review of Bob’s newest round of DVDs! (See Review) text for feature

Jazz Improv Magazine

In early June, there was a feature story about Bob in Jazz Improv Magazine. A CD is also included with each issue of that magazine and it featured a complete track from “Comin’ On Strong!” That issue also featured a segment transcription of Bob’s featured CD track. The Hofner Guitar Company also placed a full page ad with Bob’s picture in that issue.

Cover Of Showbiz Magazine

In late August, Bob got a phone call from a musician friend to let him know that his picture was on the cover of the Special Hotel Edition of Show Biz Magazine. Bob was speechless! Needless to say, Bob, a non-singing jazz guitarist was honored to be chosen, as pop music stars and major celebrities are almost always featured on the cover. (See Picture)

Jazz Quintet Review & TrueFire.com

The September issue of Jazz Improv Magazine included a rave review of the Jazz Quintet, an album that Bob recorded in 1981 (See Review). Also in September, the TrueFire.com organization released their Jazz Master Five CD Video Series, which included a CD video titled “The Making of To The Brink!” That video footage was shot by Brad Wendkos at the recording session earlier in the year.

Ed Benson Visits!

In mid September, just after completing that twenty-one week hotel engagement, Ed Benson, the Publisher of Just Jazz Guitar Magazine visited Las Vegas for some much needed R&R. Ed and Bob spent some time visiting Ed Roman’s huge (world’s largest) guitar store (See Pictures). Ed also met Conti’s good pals, Dale Zdenek, a former publisher of numerous jazz guitar books and Steve Cantor, a fine Las Vegas guitarist who is also a music contractor for major entertainers like Don Rickles, Steve & Edie Gorme, Sonny Turner’s Platters and many others. Bob also arranged for Ed to meet and interview Bill Swick, a guitarist who is the head of a wonderful high school guitar program.

Volume Four DVDs

In October, Bob completed production of the Volume Four DVDs for each of the Smoking Lineman, Sound Of Rio and Big City Blues series. Those DVDs were released in early December for a total of Six DVDs released in one year!

New Blues CD Coming!

Now, if all of the above was not enough for one year, in early October, Brad Wendkos from TrueFire.com contacted Bob stating that their subscriber response to the Jazz Master Set was overwhelming! Brad asked Bob to record another CD with a strong slant toward the Blues. Again, an ideal set of circumstances allowed Bob to return to the recording studio for another CD that was completed on November 10th!

Brad and Bob created an exciting new concept that epitomizes the term “cutting edge.” The tentative title to that CD is “Scram!” and it should be released sometime this year with an instructional DVD that will allow the viewer to1) Hear the CD. 2) See the actual source recording session. 3) Have Bob present a detailed explanation and transcription of several selected Conti lines and licks from the CD.

2005 is already shaping up to be another exciting year! In behalf of Bob and everyone at the Pinnacle Production Group, thanks again for your patronage, letters, email and most importantly, the privilege of being a part of your learning experience!
