Conti plays a pro level (more challenging than the Ticket To Improv series) solo over the chord changes to an in-demand jazz tune. Then, in his straight-forward approach, he teaches you to duplicate the entire solo, close-up, measure-by-measure, note-by-note. As documented by scores students in written testimonials, and their performance videos, you learn to play jazz, by playing jazz, not talking about modes or scales.
You must get the idea out of your head that you’re “just learning someone else’s solo.” When a child learns to speak, he/she emulates words that they have heard before. No one says to the child, “you’re just learning someone else’s words.” The child learns a word, then another word. The pattern continues until the child can speak in complete sentences (and without knowing the “theory” behind language.) As you develop your jazz vocabulary, you’ll soon reshape the ideas for applications over other tunes. These DVDs are for you if you’ve got serious chops, but don’t know what to do with them. If you practice modes and scales all the time, that’s what your solos will sound like – boring and uninteresting to say the least. Learn hip jazz lines, and have lots of fun doing it.

Hi Robert, first I wanted to say thank you for your jazz master course that I purchased at the TrueFire website. I am really enjoying the contents of the course as well as yourself. Your demeanor and delivery is fabulous! I have many miles to go before I assimilate all the material and get it up to speed. I am a fairly new, 50+ year-old rock pop smooth jazz guitarist. Though I'm not a jazz guitarist by any means not even remotely close, I purchased that course because I really see the advantage of getting those lines under my fingers to add flavor to what I play. And I want to say how much I really enjoyed you, which led me to your website because I wanted to send you an email as per your request to tell you what I thought. Besides your great demeanor I really love the way you broke everything down, played it slowly and showed exactly how it was to be played at all tempos. Great job! I see you also have lesson material here as well and if there's anything that you would recommend in addition please let me know. Thank you again.
I have known Robert Conti for almost 10 years. My friend Mark Stefani told Mr. Conti about me when I was injured at the WTC on 9/11/2001. Mr. Conti sent me an email wishing me a speedy recovery and well wishes. I will never forget that he took time out from his busy schedule to write me. I have been using Mr. Conti's teaching methods for a long time and they have helped me improve my guitar technique tremendously. I highly recommend his teaching products. Thank you.
Greeting Robert I recently brought your jazz master CD set and this is incredible I was pleased with this extraordinary teaching and pleased to know someone finally got it right. James Fresh Water Records.
As a former professional jazz guitarist of 50 years, I took a sabatical of 20 years. I started playing again after a 20 year sabbatical. I found myself dregging up old licks. I feelt I needed a spark to get going again. Your "Smoking Lineman" was just what I was looking for. Thanks Bob Fr. Ron Parker (Born in so. Phila.) I guess it's in the blood.
I'VE BEEN BUYING YOUR ADVANCED IMPROV, CHORD MELODY AND OUTRAGEOUS BLUES.. I FEEL LIKE I'M GETTING PRIVATE LESSONS FROM YOU. THEY ARE FABULOUS!! YOUR CD TO THE BRINK! IS GREAT! THAT SAX PLAYER IS A GREAT ADDITION. THANK YOU!
Just received my first order from You, the Smoking Lineman DVD. Wow, that was delivered quickly. I have to say the DVD is absolutely stunning. Bob's playing and teaching is just great. He really can make things look so easy. Best teaching product ever.
I am 70 years old and have looked all my life for something like this. Robert Conti is the best guitar instructor I have ever seen. I absolutely love the DVDs.
