I reviewed the first two DVD’s in this series in the November issue. In these Three DVDs Bob teaches you arrangement of Danny Boy, Poor Butterfly and Indian Summer. Once again his method is to teach you measure by measure, chord by chord so when you are finished with the DVD you have an understanding of how to play different versions of the arrangement. I viewed Indian Summer first. Check out his new Parker archtop on this one.
He begins by playing the chord melody arrangement slowly with great closeups of his hand position. He always has something going in in the bass accompany the melody. Bob shows various ways to harmonize the same melody line which I found interesting. He’s not big on teaching theory as his goal is to learn the arrangement and then apply knowledge and ideas to other songs.
It’s extremely easy to follow along as you can stop and repeat any line to go over that section until you’ve got it under your fingers. You can also stop the DVD at anytime step by step to learn a specific chord or movement. Sure beat rewinding VHS tape. The key, after learning the tune, is to apply what yo’ve learned to new material.
All the DVD are taught in a smiliar easy going manner and a student with a little knowledge of the guitar can easily the chord forms and work their way around the neck developing the chord melodoy solo.
A bargain at $19.95. you can’t take a lesson for that price. This is terrific opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business. Highly recommended.
