You wouldn’t expect to find a world-class guitarist playing in a hotel lobby. But any week night that’s where you’ll find Robert Conti, a musician who certainly fits that description. So begins a feature in the September 24th Calendar section of the los Angeles Times reviewing our own lobby lounge musician, Robert Conti.
Conti, a Philadelphia native, came to Irvine in 1988 after residing in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida for twenty-two years, enticed by an offer of executive position from the Dino Delaurentis organization of Beverly Hills. This culminated from a casual acquaintance while guest performing at the Pacific Coast Jazz Festival, 1986.
All one has to do to note the merits of this outstanding musician is take a quick peek at his bio., which includes rave reviews and mentions in publications such as the LA Times, the Orange County Register, CD Review, Billboard Magazine, High Fidelity Magazine, International Jazz Journal and others too numerous to mention.
Judging from the usual perception of musicians as “flaky artists,” what might be curious to note in a musician of Conti’s caliber is his substantial, hands on working knowledge of law and finance which, in prior years, has earned him high praise as a “financial whiz kid.” Along with many other documented successes, Conti has brought his shrewd business sense home to rest by closing several key deals right here at Marriott. In addition to his local following, Conti’s corporate guests include such names as IBM and United Distillers. These have not only served to increase revenues, but also serve as a testament to Conti’s commitment to Marriott and his own brand of professional savvy. Conti began his sojurn with Marriott in 1989 right here in Irvine, and, after a short stint at the Newport Beach Marriott we’re proud to note that he’s back where he belongs! So, if you’re ever in the lobby during the week between the hours of 5 and 8pm, lend your ear to “the elegant music of Robert Conti…the start to a perfect California evening…and an exclusive signature of the Irvine Marriott.”
